The Best Age for Newborn Photos

This question is asked all the time! So I thought… why not put a blogpost together about this topic.

If your planning a newborn session for your little one when they arrive a your wondering when is the best time after baby arrives to head into studio let’s talk. Here are my thoughts.

Ideally the sweet spot for those squishy adorable newborn photos is in and around the 5-14 day old mark. Here’s why:

Sleepy Curled Poses

In the first two weeks of babies life they are still in that womb like state, making it easier to capture them in those cozy curled up poses.

Less Baby Acne & Flaky Skin

Around three weeks some babies develop a bit of baby acne or dry skin. While I am pretty good at working my magic on baby skin to help get rid of that baby acne it does make the editing process a lot easier when there is less acne.

More Predictable Sleep Patterns

Newborns sleep a lot… although it might not feel like it at 1 in the morning! But generally those first few weeks if baby is swaddled and fed and comfy they will have a much easier time falling asleep which makes things so much easier for posing and working through a session.

Seriously though… every baby is so different and for many reasons a newborn session while planned for might not be in the cards for you and your family. Don’t stress about this. My goal is always to have families come in feeling healthy and ready to enjoy a session. So if that means you come in at one month instead of two weeks? Then we capture incredible beautiful and meaningful memories at that stage of life. Safety while posing is so very important so the props may differ a bit when baby comes in a little older but let’s be honest your little one will shine regardless of age.

You will never regret capturing these sweet moments! Get in touch today if you are considering a newborn session… I’d love to talk and send over more info.
